Thermistors and Temperature Sensors Overview
Thermistors play an important role in device management. With the size of applications shrinking and the amount of feedback required from the device increasing the need for thermistors is increasing in many new applications.
Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistors decrease in resistance when subjected to an increase in body temperature. Applications include temperature measurement, temperature differential, temperature control, temperature compensation, time delay and surge suppression.
Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors are thermally sensitive semiconductor resistors that exhibit an increase in resistance at a specified temperature. Applications include temperature measurement, temperature control, temperature compensation and over-temperature protection, over-current protection, liquid level detection and time delay.
